After seeing over 20+ homes, we finally purchased the house at 6 Harvest Ln. This house is well designed. Whiteman Homes simply made smart design choices. Some builders make oversized foyers, halls, baths etc., leaving tiny bedrooms, tiny dining room, and tiny home office space. We liked the fact that it was built with quality names like Anderson Windows, Schlage door hardware (levers, not those cheap no name knobs), Kohler plumbing fixtures, whole house multi-zoned air filtration system you appreciate during allergy seasons.
We feel safe when our children play outside because it’s a cul-de-sac street with very limited traffic. Our neighbors are lawyers, builders, police, school teachers, nurses, and engineers. So everyone keeps the street and yards looking nice. Another bonus is the Halifax school system offers full day kindergarten at no additional charge. This is unusual in most towns.
People sometimes mistakenly dismiss our location because it’s not as close to Boston. I loved taking the commuter rail (either Halifax or Bridgewater) into Boston. It’s the 2nd stop, so there is always seating. It’s an hour trip, but you get that as quiet time. It used to take me an hour from Quincy to Boston due to all the city traffic and overcrowded MBTA red T line. As a dad with two happy but noisy kids, I will take quite time over congested commute any day! It’s minutes to Route 44 if you need to get to 495, Route 3 etc. It’s proportional, well designed open layout, safe well kept neighborhood, free kindergarten full day, and just very practical.
We keep the home in great shape. We didn’t bother with granite counter tops because they require more maintenance than sold counter tops. No regrets there. I guess all the infrastructural upgrades, 8 car drive way that is great for gatherings, shed, sprinkler system, nice yard, finished basement for home theater and work out space, is why we still feel relaxed and happy to come “home” after work.
This home is a value purchase. If new owners want granite counters etc., the price will allow them freedom for upgrade as they please. All the infrastructure upgrades, which are the expensive items anyway, are already done and it’s in move in shape. Granite is cheap compared to a huge drive, finished basement, and so on… We even had home inspections and septic inspections and cleanup work done not that long ago.
